Alex Ho – RPS Composer Premiere

Thu 17 Nov 2022

Gorton Monastery, Manchester

Alex Ho is one of the composers we are charitably supporting as they embark on their career, and this is the first chance to hear the work he has especially written with RPS support.

A British-Chinese composer, Alex enjoys exploring themes of cultural identity and social consciousness, and his music to date has included collaborations with dance, architecture and VR. He is also Co-Director of Tangram, an artist collective made up of composers, researchers, and performers of Chinese and western instruments. You can read more about Alex on our website here.

Alex is one of seven individuals we are supporting on the current RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a ten-month programme of professional development giving them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.

You can find out more about RPS Membership and how you can help us support talented musicians like Alex here.

Alex has been partnered with Manchester Camerata, and his new work - Carved in Gorton Stone - which pays tribute to the many community members that they work with in Greater Manchester, is set for premiere this Autumn at their new base, the spectacular converted monastery in Gorton.
