Brass ensembles from across the country will come together on Saturday 25 April at for a British Brass Chamber Music Day in memory of Philip Jones, with three concerts across the day - featuring RPS Philip Jones Brass Prize winners Lewis Chinn and Fiveby5!

Britain’s great brass-playing tradition stems from the extraordinary cultural legacy of brass bands and the county’s equally vibrant history of brass chamber ensembles. Across three concerts, British Brass Chamber Music Day flies the flag for the dazzling technical accomplishments and captivating artistry cultivated across the spectrum by the nation’s brass players, from outstanding young musicians to ace professional groups.

11.30am – Showcasing the next generation of talent. Expect vibrant performances of works by Susato, Howarth and Koetsier, celebrating the energy and precision of young brass musicians steeped in Britain’s rich ensemble tradition.

The Purcell School Brass Ensemble, Wells Cathedral School Brass Quintet, Royal College of Music Junior Quintet

3pm – The afternoon concert highlights the artistry of emerging professionals, with a programme that promises bold interpretations and fresh perspectives on brass chamber repertoire.

Fiveby5 (Royal Academy of Music), Horn & Tuba Duodecet (Royal College of Music), Equinox Brass (Trinity Laban), Rosamund Brass Quartet (Royal Northern College of Music)

7.30pm – Three of the UK’s leading brass ensembles close the day with a thrilling evening performance. Timothy Jackson’s Three Worlds, inspired by Escher’s iconic print, explores overlapping sonic landscapes through three brass quintets, conjuring shimmering underwater scenes, pastoral calm and celestial mystery. A celebration of brass chamber music at its most imaginative.
