Cameron Biles-Liddell - RPS Composer Premiere

Wed 08 Oct 2025, 7:30pm - 10:00pm

The Tung Auditorium, Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, University of Liverpool, 60 Oxford Street, Liverpool, L7 3NY

A new work by Cameron, commissioned by RPS as part of the RPS Composers programme, will be performed for the first time by ensemble 10:10 at Liverpool's Tung Auditorium.

Cameron Biles-Liddell is a Welsh composer, education producer, and teacher based in Llangollen. In his music, he infuses the sounds and landscapes of his surroundings – luscious green mountains and roaring rivers – into sparkling textures, dramatic contrasts, melody, and musical narratives. Outside of composition he works as North Wales Associate for BBC National Orchestra of Wales, creating opportunities for young musicians in North Wales. You can read more about Cameron and and his music on our website here.

Cameron's new piece – Ghost Dances (Concerto for Chamber Orchestra)will be performed by Ensemble 10:10 as part of a concert also featuring works by Berio, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Luke Bedford, and RPS Honorees Judith Weir and Arvo Pärt.

Ghost Dances (Concerto for Chamber Orchestra) showcases Cameron’s passion for orchestral composition. Conveying a darkly playful depiction of ghosts, ghouls and spirits, this dramatic work features intense contrasts and pulsating motor rhythms. Across three interrelated movements, performed continuously, Ghost Dances distorts rhythms of baroque forms such as gigue, rigaudon and forlane to create a ghostly impression of the dances moving from foreground to background. In many ways, this piece takes inspiration from Cameron’s passion for combining folk-inspired melodies with dancing rhythmic energy and vitality.

Cameron is one of eight individuals we are supporting on the 2025 RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a year of professional development which gives them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.
