Carmen Ho: The Way It Is

Tue 11 Feb 2020, 7:15pm - 9:15pm

Upper Chapel, Norfolk Street, Sheffield S1 2JD

A world premiere of music by RPS Composer Carmen Ho, presented at Music in the Round, Sheffield.

Carmen Ho presents her new string quartet - The Way It Is - in a concert exploring the extremities of Beethoven and Shostakovich. We begin with Beethoven's Grosse Fuge so celebrated for its dramatic nature. Stravinsky declared it to be 'an absolutely contemporary piece of music that will be contemporary forever', while the early Quartet in G is rich in wit and humour. These works are complemented by Shostakovich’s popular Quintet featuring its own remarkable fugue, and Carmen's RPS Commission.

Beethoven Grosse Fuge in B flat Op.133
Shostakovich Piano Quintet in G minor Op.57
Carmen Ho The Way It Is for string quartet, commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society
Beethoven String Quartet in G Op.18 No.2
