As part of the RPS Encore
project, Philip Cashian's String Quartet is set to new choreography performed by dancers from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance
. Cashian's quartet, described in the New York Times as 'agile, imaginiate and light-filled', and performed today by the Zelkova Quartet
, was selected to be part of the Encore
scheme. Run by the Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3, this gives repeat performances and broadcasts of works by living British composers which otherwise might be lost from view.
This performance is part of hcmf// shorts 2012: a series of short informal performances taking place throughout Monday 19 November 2012 in various venues at Huddersfield Contemoprary Music Festival. Earlier in the day, listeners have another chance to hear Philip Cashian's String Quartet, performed alongside his piano quartet Music for the Night Sky, in a lunchtime concert recorded for broadcast on Radio 3.
