As part of the RPS Encore project, Philip Cashian's String Quartet, described in the New York Times as 'agile, imaginiate and light-filled', is performed by the Zelkova Quartet. It was selected to be part of the Encore scheme, run by the Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3, which gives repeat performances and broadcasts of works by living British composers which otherwise might be lost from view. Cashian's piano quartet Music for the Night Sky, featuring pianist Jing Ouyang, completes the programme. This concert will be recorded for broadcast on Radio 3.
This concert is part of hcmf// shorts 2012: a series of short informal performances taking place throughout Monday 19 November 2012 in various venues at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. At 17.00, listeners have another chance to hear Philip Cashian's String Quartet, this time performed alongside new choreography with dancers from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
