Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition: Finals

Sat 20 Jul 2019 2.30pm

Royal Northern College of Music, Concert Hall

Event Price: £5-£15

This July, the Royal Philharmonic Society is thrilled to be supporting the inaugural Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Building on the legacy of the Philip Jones CBE (1928-2000), a pioneer of brass chamber music, this competition invites outstanding young brass quintets to showcase excellence and enterprise, and benefit from panel and peer-led learning.

It's the first competition of its kind in the UK. Entrants will compete for three major prizes - The Philip Jones Prize (£10,000), The Marah Mahlowe Prize (£7,500) and The Founder’s Prize (£5,000) - to be awarded by an international jury comprising Reinhold Friedrich (trumpet), Barbara Butler (trumpet), Frøydis Ree Wekre (horn), Ian Bousfield (trombone) and Oren Marshall (tuba).

Commencing on Monday 15 July with qualifying rounds, the week will progress to the Semi-finals on Thursday 18 July and the Finals on 20 July. Participating ensembles will also take chamber music masterclasses with members of the jury.
