The premiere of Sasha Scott's new work for 12 Ensemble, commissioned by RPS as part of the RPS Composers programme, will take place at Norfolk and Norwich Festival.
Sasha Scott is a composer, producer and violinist born and based in London. In her artistic practice, she merges her classical training with her passion for sound design and music production. She creates a variety of different music for all kinds of performance spaces, whether that is performing solo electronic sets, creating collaborative electro-acoustic works, or orchestral and chamber music. As a violinist, she regularly plays in Chineke! Orchestra and the London Contemporary Orchestra. You can read more about Sasha and her music on our website here.
Sasha's piece, Night Owl, will be performed alongside works by Dowland, Oliver Leith, Tim Parkinson, John White, and selections from the Scottish Lute Manuscripts, at the Norfolk and Norwich festival.
Sasha says: 'I am incredibly grateful to the Royal Philharmonic Society for the opportunity to collaborate with 12 Ensemble. I deeply admire their fearless, boundary-pushing approach to live performance and programming, so this project feels especially meaningful to me.
Night Owl is written for string ensemble and electronics. My love for sound design grew from experimenting late at night β recording myself playing the violin, sampling those sounds, and discovering new metallic textures. The piece is inspired by that process and shaped by a nocturnal energy: the sense of shadows shifting, and the feeling of awakening from slumber and suddenly bursting into motion. I wanted the soundworld to glow like neon lights cutting through the dark β like the blur of London at night, with strobe lights, flashes of noise, and a sense of freedom. Itβs about getting lost in sound, and maybe finding something unexpected there too.'
Sasha is one of eight individuals we are supporting on the 2025 RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a year of professional development which gives them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.
