Soosan Lolavar - RPS Composer Premiere

Sun 09 Jul 2023, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Cheltenham College Chapel

Soosan Lolavar is one of the composers we are charitably supporting as they embark on their career, and this is the first chance to hear the work she has especially written with RPS support, premiered at Cheltenham Music Festival.

Soosan explores diaspora, hybridity and the boundaries between Iranian and western musical traditions in her work. She explores the dislocations that many people feel, and that she herself has felt as a British-Iranian woman. She describes her influences as 'very old or very new'. You can read more about Soosan on our website here.

Soosan is one of eight individuals we are supporting on the current RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a year of professional development, giving them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.

You can find out more about RPS Membership and how you can help us support talented musicians like Soosan here.

Soosan is writing for Cheltenham Music Festival, taking place from 8-15 July 2023. Her new work will be premiered by the Carice Singers, directed by George Parris.
