A unique event for people who care about classical music to get together, to share your views, and to be heard.
When was your last really great conversation with a range of colleagues across classical music? What did you say? Who did it involve? Where did it lead?
At the RPS, we love to bring people together who share our passion and conviction for classical music. Our annual event The RPS Conversation invites you to take time out from daily obligations and connect with like-minds to refresh your outlook.
Like any profession, classical music is a journey with many different paths. All of us experience challenges and opportunities, barriers to progress, and turning points that we must navigate. As a musician, you may feel you have reached a plateau in your creativity, or in how you promote your work and make useful connections. As someone in administration, it could likewise be about the impact and connections you want to make, or how you develop new skills and effect change.
Across an afternoon, hear from a host of inspirational people about their personal breakthroughs in classical music. Together, in a positive and supportive setting, you will have the opportunity to reflect on what might be holding you back and gather fresh insights and perspectives to take forward.
Our event runs from 2.00 to 5.30pm. For the most effective conversation, this particular occasion is limited to 60 participants, so we encourage early booking. Admission is £25 per person.
RPS Members and RPS Corporate Members have priority booking from Monday 22 June, on this page. Public booking is from 11am on Thursday 2 July.
‘Thanks for putting on this event and including freelancers in these discussions. The whole format and content of the event made me feel so seen and valued.’
Lana Bode, pianist
‘The RPS Conversation was a brilliantly curated, stimulating afternoon of discussion, idea sharing and debate. It was great to meet people with different experiences and diverse opinions, all with a shared passion and love for music. I really valued the opportunity to have some in-depth discussions with people I’ve not met before and understand the challenges they face within the sector.’
Tim Davy, Executive Director, Performance & Planning, Academy of St Martin in the Fields
‘The format of The RPS Conversation – including the activities and the structure – was great and you really created a safe space to speak openly. Thank you for your warmth and guidance through the afternoon.’
Sumita Menon, Programme Manager, Multi-Story Orchestra
Admission wholly goes towards venue hire and logistical costs. If you have the means, we invite you to consider becoming an RPS Member: a gesture that directly helps musicians and UK music-making through our year-round charitable ventures. It starts from just £5 a month and you can find out more about RPS Membership here. As a charity, we dearly rely on this kind of support to keep doing everything we can for the good of music.
