Zakiya Leeming is one of the composers we are charitably supporting as they embark on their career, and this is the first chance to hear the work she has especially written with RPS support.
Zakiya's musical ideas draw inspiration from science, with particular interests in physics, chemistry and medicine. Informed by her own personal experience, her work often considers how to bring arts and science together for change. You can read more about Zakiya on our website here.
Zakiya is one of seven individuals we have supported on the 2021-22 RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a 10-month programme of professional development, giving them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.
You can find out more about RPS Membership and how you can help us support talented musicians like Zakiya here.
Zakiya is writing for Riot Ensemble. Her new work, 'Sometimes. In Dreams. I Still.', for bass clarinet, saxophone, electric guitar, percussion, piano, cello and fixed media, will be premiered at their inaugural concert to mark the launch of a new ensemble in residency scheme at the University of Liverpool Music Department.
