About Natalie

'I am a Welsh-based composer and electronic artist interested in sharing new sounds with audiences, extending sound worlds of instruments and building accessibility into my work. I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) with a first-class degree in Composition and Creative Music Technology. I also studied at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland where I specialised in Live Performance with electronic instruments, specifically modular synthesiser, live spatialisation and coding.

Collaboration is central to my work, and I have explored this through my co-founded inter-disciplinary projects The Flying Bedroom Theatre Company, and sound sculpture duo Tangible Lemon.

I am currently working on a large-scale composition for Danish flute ensemble Flute x Flute, premiering later this year in the site-specific location of Brønshøj Water Tower in Copenhagen. My notable concert music works include writing for BBC National Orchestra of Wales, National Youth Guitar Ensemble Fellowship Ensemble and RPS commissioned Solo Cello work for Rainer Crosett performed at this year’s Presteigne Festival. My electronic compositions include a 16-speaker dome installation displayed in Helsinki IIRIS Institute and a live immersive electroacoustic concert titled MINDSET, recently performed in Europe’s first cross-disciplinary Lab and surround sound dome, CULTVR.

Passionate about advocating for the arts internationally, I previously worked as Students’ Union President at RWCMD and chaired the Conservatoires UK Student Network. I am also the President of the European Performing Arts Student Association and am a European Music Council Fellow.

Highlights

• Im Schimmer, Natalie’s new work for recorder and modular synthesiser commissioned by Fiona Zimmermann was premiered this Summer in three research concerts in Nuremberg, Germany. The audience wore in-ear monitors analysing how an audience’s movements and physiological states including heart rate and body temperature synchronises during concerts.
• Natalie is part of the Global Network for Women Music Producers and has spent time in Banff and Calgary, Canada, producing music with other female producers from around the world. She recorded in The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio!
• As co-founder and composer of The Flying Bedroom Theatre Company – a children’s theatre company which tours schools and family arts festivals around Wales – Natalie received Arts Council Wales funding in 2024 to work on the research and development of a new show.
• Natalie has received an Oram Award for her electronic music and Musician's Company Silver Medal for her composition. Natalie's track Underwater Tricycle from her electronic EP Altitude was later aired on BBC Radio 3.
