Carmen Ho is a composer of orchestral, instrumental and choral music. She studied for her BA at Hull University before graduating with an MA in Composition from Bristol University in 2013. She is currently in the final stages of her PhD studies at Bristol, working with Professor John Pickard.

Carmen’s music has been performed and workshopped across the UK and Europe by musicians such as Ensemble Variances, Bristol Ensemble, Musikfabrik, BBC Singers, Kokoro ensemble and Bristol University Symphony Orchestra. Psithurism for solo flute was premiered at the Goethe-Institut, Ukraine as part of the Kyiv Contemporary Music Festival in September 2016. Three watches of the night for solo bass clarinet, was commissioned by New Music in the South West and was premiered at Dartington Hall.

Dukkha was workshopped by Kokoro ensemble as part of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Composers’ Day 2017, led by Mark-Anthony Turnage. Carmen participated in the Summer School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Sir James Macmillan, Gordon McPherson, Rory Boyle and Oliver Searle.

Carmen has most recently been selected as a finalist in the 9th International Antonin Dvořák Composition Competition (2018). She is thrilled to have been awarded a Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize and has been commissioned to write a new piece for Music in the Round in 2019.
