About Vivek
'I am a British composer of Indian heritage based in London, with a background in singing. Choral music has remained at the heart of my work, while increasingly I have been exploring the relationships between sound, place, text, memory and cultural experience.
My music is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between my Western classical training and my Jain roots. I am particularly interested in listening as an active and communal experience, and in how music can create spaces for attention, reflection and connection. Ideas of non-violence, interconnectedness and care have also influenced the way I think about making and listening to music, alongside a fascination with voice, ritual, landscape and silence.
In 2026, I was selected as one of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Composers and commissioned to write SANGAM: Songs of the River, a new song cycle for soprano and piano inspired by the rivers Swale and Ure. The work was premiered at Swaledale Festival by soprano Margaret Lingas and pianist Christopher Glynn, and brought together texts by Ted Hughes and Rabindranath Tagore. Recent work has also included collaborations with the BBC Singers and musicians of the London Symphony Orchestra.
