Reigate & Redhill Choral Society meets mezzo Kathryn Rudge

We took a celebrated mezzo soprano to meet and sing with a Surrey choir that, founded over 80 years ago, is truly thriving.

Across the country, countless non-professional ensembles bring communities together. At the RPS, we’re getting out to meet some of them, to find out why they’re special to their members and their community, and tell their story here on our website, as we do for many professionals.

We took mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge to meet the members of Reigate & Redhill Choral Society in Surrey as they took their first look at the score of Elgar’s The Music Makers. The work has a special place in Kathryn’s heart having recorded it to much acclaim with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko. As this short film illustrates, she shared how she too can find an unfamiliar score intimidating, and gave the singers lots of tips, insights and encouragement on how to fall headlong in love with such a piece. We are delighted that following our visit, Reigate & Redhill Choral Society have become RPS Corporate Members and we look forward to sharing news of their future ventures.
