A Field Guide to Vaughan Williams

Thu 10 Nov 2022, 7:00pm - 8:15pm

Voces8 Centre, Gresham Street, London EC2

The Lark Ascending is one of the nation’s favourite works, annually topping the Classic FM Hall of Fame. On the 150th anniversary of his birth, we invite you to delve deeper into Vaughan Williams’ music and make some fresh discoveries.

Please note: this event will proceed despite latest changes regarding rail strike action. Currently, buses, the Elizabeth Line and National Rail are all expected to be running as usual. Regular tube services are expected to be limited, but Transport for London has pledged to provide further updates. We’ve specially created a helpful guide with lots of options for how to get there. Simply click here to read it and plan your journey.

Writer Gavin Plumley will be our guide, taking us in the composer’s footsteps, retracing the paths he took across Britain gathering inspiration. We’ll discover where he travelled, what he saw and what he heard, and how it shaped music that still speaks so resonantly in modern times. The Villiers String Quartet, tenor Xavier Hetherington, and pianist Hiroaki Takenouchi will be joining us to perform live a range of his works which, once heard, could become your new favourites.
