Colour and Eternity: The music of Olivier Messiaen

A pre-concert talk will explore the rich sound world of Olivier Messiaen, composer Robert Saxton, writer Paul Griffiths and pianist Alexandra Dariescu delve into his musical language, where birdsong, faith and colour collide to produce one of the most original musical voices in the 20th century. A new piano miniature by Aled Smith, which was inspired by Des Canyons aux Étoiles, will also be performed. This work was a winning entry in the RPS mini-commission series, offered as part of the Society's Bicentenary celebrations.
