London-based wind quintet Ensemble Renard have quickly emerged as one of the UK's most exciting young chamber ensembles. With a focus on curating compelling and contrasting programmes comprising works past and present, each performance they give demonstrates the kaleidoscopic versatility of the wind quintet.

The Berio Sequenza is a tour de force for the solo flute, while his playful and virtuosic Ricorrenze is a brilliant work for the whole quintet.

Boulez dedicated his “Dialogue d’ombre double” to Berio on his 60th birthday. The clarinetist records a tape which is played back in performance while they add a live element too.

Programme:

Berio Ricorrenze
Boulez Dialogue de l’ombre double
Berio Sequenza I per flauto
Cheryl Frances-Hoad new work (Britten Pears Arts commission/world premiere)
Esa-Pekka Salonen Memoria

Celebrations will continue the following day, Saturday 21 June, with Surrounded by Sequenzas: a series of pop-up performances of Berio's Sequenzas by Ensemble Renard indoors and outdoors at the Red House, Aldeburgh, showcasing the brilliance of each wind instrument.

The pop-up performances are free as part of general admission to The Red House and will take place at various locations at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
