We welcome RPS Members to get together and reflect on the charity’s achievements of the year past, and have a ringside seat for what promises to be a topical, illuminating conversation.
This year’s RPS Annual General Meeting takes place at Friends House in central London. RPS Chair Angela Dixon will lead the usual business of the AGM, sharing our Annual Report and revealing the musicians proposed to receive the RPS Gold Medal – with Members’ approval. Then, we present what’s sure to be a fascinating conversation, casting fresh perspectives on music-making today…
The UK can be justly proud of its music and musicians. As seen at the recent RPS Awards – showcasing achievements from star artists to dedicated non-professionals – music is intrinsic to the nation’s spirit. But how might you describe Britishness in music today? How has it changed since the era of Elgar? If the culture we make reflects who we are as a society, what does music say about our shared 21st century identity?
We’ll be putting our minds to such matters with special guests, including: Sam Jackson, Controller of BBC Radio 3 and BBC Proms – two treasured national institutions where homegrown and international talents share the limelight; the popular pianist Alexandra Dariescu, a British citizen with Romanian heritage who performs the music of countless nations; and the acclaimed London-based composer Raymond Yiu who grew up in Hong Kong.
On the night, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to our guest speakers, and to the RPS team and RPS Trustees. RPS Members will receive the full ‘Notice of the AGM’ closer to the event.
If you’re an RPS Member, we invite you to let us know if you are coming using the form linked below, or by emailing us. RPS Members who cannot attend can still vote on key AGM matters, using our proxy voting form: a link to this will be sent to all RPS Members in due course.
If you’re not an RPS Member, we invite you to support the music and musicians you love by joining the Royal Philharmonic Society. Once you’ve signed up, you’re warmly welcome to join us for this year’s RPS In Conversation and AGM. Click here to discover more.
Friends House is directly opposite Euston Station on Euston Road. A wide step-free ramp at the east side of the building leads to the main entrance:
