Rylan Gleave – RPS Composer Premiere

Thu 25 Aug 2022, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

St Andrew’s Church, Presteigne

Rylan Gleave is one of the composers we are charitably supporting as they embark on their career, and this is the first chance to hear the work he has especially written with RPS support.

Named by The Scotsman as ‘One to Watch’ 2021, Rylan lives in Leith and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His music often draws on his own experience as a trans Disabled artist, and he says ‘I would describe my practice as inclusive, accessible, and collaborative, rooting itself in human realness and fragility.’ You can read more about Rylan on our website here.

Rylan is one of seven individuals we are supporting on the current RPS Composers programme, giving each a commission and premiere with a noted ensemble, festival or venue, as well as a ten-month programme of professional development giving them the chance to meet industry experts and professional composers, furthering their confidence and skills to seek further commissions and premieres of their own. The RPS Composers programme is made possible by a range of trusts and foundations, and through the kind support of RPS Members.

You can find out more about RPS Membership and how you can help us support talented musicians like Rylan here.

We have partnered Rylan with the Presteigne Festival on the Welsh border where his new chamber work ‘to Gelert’ will be performed by the cellist Gemma Rosenfield. Presteigne Festival is a fantastic celebration of music new and old in the most picturesque setting, and well worth a visit.
