Women Conductors: Birmingham - CANCELLED

Tue 14 Apr 2020 - Wed 15 Apr 2020

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, 200 Jennens Rd, Birmingham B4 7XR

UPDATE: Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we are sorry to announce that our Women Conductors course on 14 and 15 April has been cancelled. Participants have been notified by email.

The Royal Philharmonic Society continues its work to redress the issue of gender inequality on the conducting podium with a Phase 1 course for young female music students, to be held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Phase 1 is aimed at encouraging women aged 16 and over who are studying music, or pursuing a career in music as performers or educators, to take to the conductor's podium for the very first time. 12 participants explore some of the principles of conducting with Artistic Director Alice Farnham, then have the chance to work with professional performers: initially two pianists and then a five-strong string ensemble. They will also work with specialist coach Alma Sheehan on physicality, posture and confidently making an impression on their fellow performers and audience.

Applications for this course are now open. Click here to find out more and apply.

If you play a stringed instrument at Grade 7-8 standard and would like to volunteer to play in the ensemble on 15 April, please contact YeYe Xu, Assistant Administrator.
