2024: Inspiration

supported by Presto Music

In recent years, we have introduced the RPS Inspiration Award, recognising the remarkable achievements of non-professional musical groups nationwide. Uniquely among the RPS Awards, the recipient of this Award is chosen by public vote.

Derwent Brass

‘Derwent Brass is a beacon of innovative programming in the Midlands’ rich heritage of brass banding. Recently celebrating its 30th anniversary, the band is positively influencing others with its commitments to sustainability and diverse membership. Performing repertoire from Broadway to ‘The Planets’ – and recently completing a 35-show run of ‘Brassed Off’ at Derby Theatre – the group consistently innovates and entertains.'

Also shortlisted:

Glasgow Madrigirls
Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus
The Sunday Boys

Each year, the winner of this RPS Award is chosen by public vote. A shortlist of four exceptional entities was assembled by a panel who themselves work tirelessly year-round with non-professional groups and, from these, we invited the public to vote for whom they felt should receive this year’s award. The panel comprised:

Manvinder Rattan – Chief Executive, Voices Foundation, Musical Director, Hertford Choral Society
Paul MacAlindin – Conductor, Artistic Director, The Glasgow Barons
Rachel Lindley –Director, Music Publishing, Oxford University Press
Rhiannon Harrison – Trombone, Chair, Making Music
Ula Weber – Choral conductor and animateur

We are very grateful to the 5,434 members of the public who then proceeded to cast their vote for one of the shortlisted nominees.
