About Claire
'I’m a British composer whose work spans contemporary classical, jazz and improvised music. I find that my music is concerned primarily with emotional connectivity and storytelling, with a strong sense of narrative and 'journeying' in the way I write. I’m often inspired by literature, photography and historical human stories. Having started composing initially within the jazz world, I love composing orchestral music with a strong sense of harmony, and particularly enjoy exploring irregular ‘grooves’ within classical works.
I have been very lucky to collaborate with many wonderful ensembles including the Philharmonia Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, The Carice Singers and The Marian Consort, as well as brass bands including Fodens Band and Fairey Band. I’ve also had music performed in festivals including the LunART Festival in Madison, Wisconsin and Three Choirs Festival. I also lead a contemporary jazz group, ‘Ensemble C’, with whom I have recorded two albums.'
