Electra Perivolaris

Electra is one of eight composers selected for a place on the 2023 RPS Composers programme. This will culminate in her writing a new piece, commissioned by the RPS, for Presteigne Festival.

About Electra

'I am a composer and pianist from Scotland of mixed British and Greek heritage. There are two main strands to my work; the influence of the natural landscape in my composition, and my outreach and community engagement work on composition projects in a variety of settings including with people living with dementia, children with Special Educational Needs and people facing homelessness. My music is inspired by the ancient landscape of my home on the Scottish Isle of Arran.

Following success in the BBC Young Composers’ competition, my music has been performed internationally by the Hebrides Ensemble, BBC Singers, BBC Concert Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra. In 2021 I graduated from the Master of Music in Composition course at the Royal Academy of Music, winning the Diploma Award for an Outstanding Final Portfolio. I recently fulfilled a commission for the London Sinfonietta/ Live Music Now/ Theatre of Sound, collaborating with families living with dementia to create an opera which tells their stories. I am an Ambassador for BBC Young Composer and have been selected for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Composers’ Hub, LSO Soundhub and Scottish Chamber Orchestra ‘New Stories’ scheme.'
