Lillie graduated from the Royal College of Music in July 2016, studying with Haris Kittos and winning the Elgar Memorial Prize for her final portfolio. Musical from a young age, her interest in composing grew out of learning instruments, a flair for languages, and a love of creative writing; narrative ideas and complex emotions are still a huge source of musical inspiration for her, and often form the backbone of her compositions. Her pieces have been workshopped and performed by ensembles including Psappha, LSO and LPO players, the Assembly Project, the RSNO, Ebor Singers, and Ensemble Recherche, and at venues including the Southbank Centre, Science Museum, King’s Place, LSO St Luke’s, Usher Hall Edinburgh, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Her piece ‘Dormientes Bestia' for paetzold and tape was in the winning programme in the RCM Contemporary Competition 2016, and she was selected for the National Centre for Early Music’s Composer Competition Final in 2013 and 2014, and the International Antonin Dvorak Composition Competition 2016. In 2016, her orchestral work ‘remiscipate’, written on the RSNO’s first Composers Hub, was chosen to be performed in their Season Finale concerts. She was awarded the Tenso Young Composers Award in 2017 for her song cycle setting poems by August Stramm, one of which was premiered by the London Oriana Choir in 2019 in the final of their five15 competition. Recently, she was commissioned by the LSO to write new pieces and arrangements for their Under-5s concert celebrating 30 years of Elmer the Elephant, and participated in the LPO Leverhulme Young Composers programme and LSO Soundhub Phases I and II. In 2019 she is participating in the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain’s new Young Composers Scheme, which will include a new choral work being recorded and released by NMC Recordings.

Outside of composition, she writes the user manual for Steinberg’s new notation software Dorico, assists musical outreach workshops, and does engraving and copying work primarily for film, TV, and game music recording sessions at studios including Abbey Road and Air.

Commissioned with support from the Susan Bradshaw Composers' Fund.
