Katie Taunton

Flute | 2023 Julius Isserlis Scholarship

A note from Katie

I am so grateful to be a recipient of the RPS Julius Isserlis Scholarship. The award will allow me to travel to Italy monthly for a series of intensive lessons from flautist Andrea Oliva, hopefully at the Accademia Nationale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

During my time at the Royal Northern College of Music, I was fortunate to receive lessons and masterclasses from Andrea Oliva. He is one of the leading flautists in the world and an esteemed orchestral player. I am so excited to re-unite with Andrea and benefit from concentrated training on orchestral auditions. It is a dream of mine to immerse myself in new cultures musically and socially, playing in iconic orchestras while learning a new language. This scholarship allows me to meet more international musicians and have access to the European music scene without the need to re-locate. This will allow me to continue my freelance work, community and participation and teaching in the UK.
