Mariana Rosas
I am an Argentinian conductor based in the UK where I am Chorus Director of the London Symphony Chorus. I have collaborated with Sir Antonio Pappano, Giannandrea Noseda, Michael Tilson Thomas, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Nathalie Stutzmann, Susanna Mälkki, Teodor Currentzis, Gustavo Dudamel, and Dr André J. Thomas. I am a conductor with the National Youth Choirs, an Associate Artist with Birmingham Opera Company, and Director of Choirs at the University of Birmingham.
I have worked with the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Royal College of Music, Rundfunkchor Berlin, BBC Symphony Chorus, CBSO Chorus, SWR Symphony Orchestra, WDR Rundfunkchor, and London Voices.
I started studying at my local conservatoire in Buenos Aires at the age of 9, but it was when I started conducting my school choir in Italy, aged 17, that I decided I wanted to become a conductor. I remember that first rehearsal very vividly, and how all the things that I enjoyed doing – music, teaching, working with other people, and even acting – were integrated in the role of the conductor.
I then returned to Argentina and studied at the National University of Arts and the Conservatoire of the City of Buenos Aires. I have degrees in choral and orchestral conducting, with a specialisation in contemporary music. In 2018 I moved to the UK to study with Simon Halsey.
Prior to my move to the UK, I was Assistant Professor of Choral Practice at the National University of Arts in Buenos Aires, and have worked as a guest conductor in Denmark, Canada, Italy, and Switzerland. I was a Britten-Pears Young Artist, and I am looking forward to being part of the RPS Conductors cohort.
