Tania Mazzetti

About Tania

I have spent the last 20 years as a violinist and am currently Principal Second Violin of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. However, my deepest passion has always been for music itself rather than the violin alone. I have always loved studying scores, understanding musical architecture, finding meaning, and forming my own vision. The orchestra, as a complex breathing organism, and its incredible repertoire, has always felt like my natural home.

Throughout my orchestral life, I have had the privilege of working with many world-class conductors, observing their rehearsal techniques and listening to their ideas and interpretative insights. Conducting has long been my secret dream, and about a year ago I decided to bring it to life. I began private lessons with Sian Edwards, attended her classes at the Royal Academy of Music, and joined workshops with Toby Purser, Giuseppe Raví, Peter Stark, and Johannes Schlaefli.

Recently, with the support of wonderful colleagues and friends, I founded the Bermondsey Chamber Orchestra, resident at St Mary Magdalen Church, with the aim of bringing high-quality classical music to the local community. The ensemble also collaborates with the White Cube Gallery, exploring creative cross-arts events.
