Welcoming new conductors to the RPS Conductors cohort: Felicity Cliffe, Dorothy Khadem-Missagh, Claudia Fuller, Tania Mazzetti, Jacobus de Jager and Mariana Rosas

Introducing the RPS Conductors 2026-27

18 Nov 2025

We are delighted to welcome six conductors newly joining our RPS Conductors programme in partnership with Royal Northern Sinfonia at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead.

Since 2016, we have proudly presented a gamechanging initiative supporting underrepresented talents to find their rightful place on the conducting podium. Established by conductor Alice Farnham, you can read the story of our initiative here. Unlike most musicians, it’s difficult for conductors to practice and progress in isolation and they need time with ensembles to road-test ideas and refine their craft. Recognising this, our friends at Royal Northern Sinfonia annually offer their time and resources at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead for the RPS Conductors courses, helping them to build their confidence, hone their skills, and take risks in a supportive, encouraging setting.

Our 2026-27 cohort comprises two returning conductors, Josephine Korda and Oi Ching Chan, along with six new talents:

Claudia Fuller
Dorothy Khadem-Missagh
Felicity Cliffe
Jacobus de Jager
Mariana Rosas
Tania Mazzetti

Over several visits, the conductors – with coaching from Alice Farnham – and the orchestral musicians forge bonds, build trust, rehearse a range of repertoire, and reflect together on the principles of fruitful interaction between conductors and orchestras. The experience is free, and travel and accommodation are covered. Between visits, the cohort receives further mentorship from Alice, and career support from RPS and RNS staff.

Returning conductor Oi Ching Chan says ‘The RPS Conductors programme has been a unique and transformational experience. It has offered the rare opportunity to build a meaningful connection with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and its musicians. This kind of relationship is incredibly hard to find elsewhere and feedback from the musicians, combined with their generosity and commitment, has allowed me to grow artistically and vocationally. After every session, I feel more affirmed and motivated – these opportunities give us the confidence to continue forging our path as artists.

We are grateful to Royal Northern Sinfonia and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music for making this course possible, as well as the support of RPS Members, several generous individual donors, and the J P Jacobs Charitable Trust.

The Royal Philharmonic Society – a registered charity – has been at the heart of music for over 200 years, creating opportunities for musicians to excel, and championing the vital role that music plays in all our lives.

Through our programme of grants, commissions, professional development and performance opportunities, we help many performers and composers overcome barriers to progress and fulfil their potential. Through the annual RPS Awards – described by The Sunday Times as ‘the biggest night in UK classical music’ – we celebrate musical accomplishments UK-wide and tell a vital story of what music-makers do for the benefit of others. Through RPS Membership and our new talks and events, we aim to cultivate greater pride and curiosity in classical music. Through all our endeavours, we are dedicated to proving classical music’s rightful and powerful place in society.
